Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential and iconic artists of the 20th century, died on 8 April 1973. Picasso left an indelible mark on the history of painting and sculpture and extended his curiosity to other disciplines such as ceramics and poetry.

Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is one of Picasso's most iconic works and is considered one of the most influential and innovative paintings in the history of modern art. It was painted in 1907 and depicts five naked women in a brothel in the rue d'Avignon in Barcelona.

The exhibition explores the relationship between the Malaga-born artist and his time in A Coruña and includes a selection of 120 pieces. Each work is related to the narrative discourse of the exhibition and to the artist's formative period during his years in the city.

Picasso completed the piece in February 1930. The choice to paint a sacred subject was not an isolated case for the artist.

Maya à la poupèe is a portrait of Picasso's daughter Maya, painted in 1938. In the 1930s, Picasso produced a series of portraits of Maya that revealed the extent to which the birth of his daughter triggered an explosion of creativity in his art.
