The Picasso Celebration 1973-2023, an initiative promoted by the Governments of Spain and France that pays tribute to the artist on the 50th anniversary of his death, bids farewell to Catalonia with the visit of Ernest Urtasun, Minister of Culture, to the exhibition 'Miró-Picasso', hosted by the Museu Picasso Barcelona and the Fundació Juan Miró until this Sunday.

The Minister, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Culture, Jordi Martí Grau; the French Ambassador to Spain, Jean-Michel Casa; and the Consul General of France in Barcelona, Oliver Ramadour, visited both institutions this morning.

The first visit was to the exhibition at the Fundació Joan Miró, where the authorities were received and accompanied by Sara Puig and Marko Daniel, president and director, respectively, along with Sònia Villegas, one of the curators. At the end, the retinue moved to the Museu Picasso Barcelona, where they were welcomed by Xavier Marcé, Councilor for Culture and Creative Industries of the Barcelona City Council; Genís Roca, vice president of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Museu Picasso; María Vilasó, manager of the Fundació Museu Picasso Barcelona and Elena Llorens and Margarida Cortadella, curators of the exhibition.

Miró-Picasso' was the first exhibition organized and produced jointly by the two institutions to commemorate the relationship between these two artists who left an indelible mark on the history of the avant-garde and 20th century art and their relationship with Barcelona.

Between the two museums, the exhibition has received, since its opening on October 20, more than 461,000 visitors, with an expected 24,000 more visitors by the closing date of February 25.

In the course of the Celebration, Catalonia has hosted three other exhibitions. The Museu Picasso Barcelona put the spotlight on the figure of art dealer Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler and his fundamental role in Picasso's artistic evolution in the exhibition 'Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler: Dealer and Publisher'. Picasso's ceramic production was the subject of attention in 'The Will of Picasso' at the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona. The Fundació Palau, meanwhile, showed the relationship between Picasso and different contemporary Catalan artists in 'Picasso on the retina. Portraits of Catalan artists'.
