As part of the Picasso Celebration 1973-2023 program, an initiative promoted by the Spanish and French governments that pays tribute to the artist on the 50th anniversary of his death, the Cervantes Institute in Paris and the Spanish Embassy in France present Picasso Escritor, a conference that will take place at the headquarters of the Spanish institute in Paris on October 5 and 6.
Picasso Escritor will approach the figure of the artist from a dual perspective, covering both his literary creation and his relationship with letters and the writers who influenced him, as well as those he may have influenced.
The congress will bring together an outstanding group of experts who have explored the subject of Picasso as a writer from different angles to shed light on this lesser-known facet of the Malaga-born artist. Speakers include directors of Spanish museums dedicated to Picasso, prominent poets, curators and renowned historians. Each will offer unique perspectives and in-depth analyses that will reveal the richness and complexity of the relationship between Picasso and the written word.
This activity is part of the initiatives promoted by the Cervantes Institute in Paris as part of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which underline Spain's commitment to the promotion of culture and art in the European context.
The Cervantes Institute, founded in 1991 by the Spanish government, was established in response to the need to give coherence to the State's external action in relation to the teaching of Spanish and the dissemination of Spanish culture. Its objective is to promote the teaching, study and use of Spanish and the dissemination of Hispanic cultures on a universal level. In three decades of existence, with a global network of 89 offices on five continents, the Instituto Cervantes has become a brand of quality and prestige, actively contributing to the promotion of Spanish and pan-Hispanic culture throughout the world.
