The conference program features the participation of leading international researchers until next February 7.
The professor of Art History at the UMA, Eugenio Carmona, directs the lecture series "Picasso 1906. The Great Transformation", which is being held at the Reina Sofia National Art Center in Madrid until February 7. In the framework of the exhibition with the same name, the program brings together an outstanding panel of international experts of the stature of Cécile Debray, Tamar Garb, Jèssica Jaques Pi, Patricia Leighten, Robert Lubar and Carmona himself, member of the Board of Trustees of the Reina Sofía Museum and one of the world's leading experts on Picasso's work, Cubism and Surrealism.
The purpose of the symposium is to explore Picasso's origins from a contemporary perspective. Thus, the different lectures examine the artist's contribution to the germinal moment of modern art, seeking to understand Picasso through contemporary eyes in the face of the critical revision that the artist has undergone in our present.
Both the exhibition and the series of lectures aim to present a vitalist Picasso who longs for the re-foundation of the artistic experience. "An artist close to libertarian thought, devoted to the meaning of his activity, in search of the original and who focuses his work on three registers: the search for the primordial, the representation of the body and interculturality as a process," explains the program.
