Half a century after his departure, Pablo Picasso's influence persists in the artistic and literary scene. That is why the publication, for the first time in Spanish, of Pablo Picasso. Escritos 1935-1959, a complete journey through the artist's literary work, which allows us to unravel the thoughts, dreams and complexity of his creative process through a different discipline.
In 1939, Picasso expressed the desire to create a book that would capture everything from his chaotic personality to the materialization of his writings to Jaime Sabartés, a poet and friend of the artist who was also known for having been his main biographer. Picasso imagined that each page of the book "would be a veritable potpourri without the slightest hint of organization or composition. Simplicity and complexity would be combined as in his paintings, his drawings or his texts".
Pablo Picasso. Writings 1935-1959 offers an exhaustive compilation of his writings, rescuing previously unknown treasures from private collections, such as that of Dora Maar, photographer and friend of the artist, and from documents in the artist's monographic museums in Paris and Barcelona. Presented on a variety of media, from drawing paper to newspaper fragments, some of these texts were transformed into works of art with engravings, colors and lithographs.
This volume, with introduction and notes by Marie-Laure Bernadac, writer and curator at the Musée du Louvre, and Christine Piot, writer, and accompanied by an outstanding graphic section, provides a deeper insight into the artist's creative process and offers an essential window into the complexity behind his masterpieces.
