The Musée national Picasso-Paris, main lender and promoter of the Picasso Celebration 1973-2023 together with the Spanish National Commission for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso, explores Picasso's work through the eyes of Sophie Calle, artist and curator, from October 3 to January 7, 2024.

Sophie Calle. Depends on You Precious is organized into four chapters, each corresponding to one of the museum's floors, complementing the numerous events of the 1973-2023 Picasso Celebration that pay tribute to the illustrious Spanish artist. Sophie Calle offers a curious and unusual look at a selection of Picasso's iconic works and evokes the artist's images and memories in a personal narrative.

In this exhibition, the French artist explores some of the central themes of his work, such as the deprivation of the gaze and disappearance. To do so, she turns to archives and writings as the source and raw material of her own creation. The artist has accepted the challenge of this invitation by sharply and deeply questioning the critical reception of her work and her concern to pass it on to future generations.

Sophie Calle has been the subject of numerous exhibitions around the world since the late 1970s. Described in a variety of ways, from conceptual artist to photographer, video artist and even detective, she has developed a singular body of work with a recognizable imprint. She combines text and photography to create a unique narrative. Her works form a vast system of echoes and internal references, connected as chapters of an overall work. Sophie Calle often blurs the boundaries between the intimate and the public, reality and fiction, art and life.

Cécile Debray, curator of the exhibition, was appointed president of the Musée national Picasso-Paris in November 2021. A curator by training, she was previously director of the Musée de l'Orangerie (2017-2021). She has been in charge of modern collections at the Musée national d'art moderne / Centre Pompidou (2008-2017), scientific advisor to the Administrator General of the RMN, in charge of programming at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais (2005-2008), curator at the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris (2000-2005) and director of the Châteauroux museums (1997-2000).
