On 2 December the Museu de Picasso in Barcelona opens the exhibition Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler. Dealer and Publisher, curated by Brigitte Leal and in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, which presents the personality and activity of this "man of the arts".

Exceptional in all his facets, his work as one of the main disseminators of Cubism as Picasso's dealer and his relationship with Barcelona were highlighted in the framework of the Picasso Celebration 1973-2023.

Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler (Mannheim, 1884 - Paris, 1979), art dealer, gallery owner, biographer and friend of Picasso, was a transcendental figure in the career of the artist whom he met in 1907. Kahnweiler was the great dealer of other Cubist artists such as Georges Braque and Juan Gris and set up an international network of collectors interested in Cubism, including Hermann Rupf and Vincenc Kramar.

The exhibition chronologically covers his three Parisian galleries: the "petite galerie", the Simon gallery and the Louise Leiris gallery, under the name of his stepdaughter, which continued its activity after Kanhweiler's death in 1979 and to this day continues to exhibit artists such as Pablo Picasso, André Masson and Salvador Dalí.

The project will allow us to delve into Kahnweiler's personality and all the facets of his activity, also as a publisher and bibliophile, through an exceptional selection of works by the artists he worked with, without forgetting his links with Catalan artists and his participation in the creation of the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.

The exhibition is part of the project called Picasso Celebration 1973-2023, a programme of more than fifty exhibitions and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, which will take place between 2022 and throughout 2023 at the venues of renowned cultural institutions in Europe and the United States.
