Picasso, el Greco and analytical cubism

Much has been written about El Greco’s influence on Picasso over the span of the latter’s entire career, although “Picasso El Greco” will be the first monographic exhibition to explore this relation. Following what will be an eventful exhibition during the summer of 2022 at the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Museo del Prado will subsequently present a condensed version focusing on the most radical connections between the two artists. Bringing together both of their works – focusing on Picasso’s cubist works and El Greco’s late works- in the immediate way that only an exhibition allows-opens new perspectives, not only between the two of them but also through them, and new reflections on the significance of this relation in the development of avant-garde movements of the twentieth century.
