Picasso landscapes: out of bounds will be the first traveling exhibition to examine Pablo Picasso’s lifelong commitment to the landscape genre. From his early days in art school to the year before his death, landscape painting shaped Picasso’s creative evolution and revealed his perception of the world around him. The landscape was the catalyst for his formal experimentation, a field of investigation into urban modernity, an interface between humanity and nature, a terrain for direct sculptural intervention, a space for personal retreat, a terrain inviting elegiac scenes, a territory of resistance and escape. With forty paintings and sculptures, this exhibition reveals new dimensions of the artist’s practice.
