The body, both the artist's instrument and the ultimate goal of representation, is the fundamental pillar of this exhibition. The selection of sculptures will cover the almost infinite plurality of styles that Picasso used to enlarge the forms of the human body, breaking it down into all formats and genres, and in all possible materials: wood, bronze, iron, cement, steel, plaster, everything goes into his sculptural work. For Picasso, this discipline was by no means secondary in his production; instead, he conceived of it as a form of expression comparable to painting, drawing, printmaking, or ceramics, since, as he said, no art is greater or less important than others, but these languages and materials allowed him to express different aspects of his creation.
Even though this sphere of his work became more evident and deepened during his Cubist period, Pablo Picasso had made sculptures almost from the start of his extensive artistic career and continued to work on them throughout his life.
