A modern woman, Fernande Olivier (1881-1966) began her career as a professional model for many artists before becoming best known as a companion to the young Picasso. She inspired his artistic revolution from the Blue Period to Cubism. As a writer, she recounts life in Montmartre, Picasso and his band of Catalan friends, and the artistic bohemia of the Bateau-Lavoir in the early 20th century.

This first exhibition entirely devoted to her illustrates some of the key episodes of the avant-garde through her writings: Le Douanier Rousseau, Max Jacob, Guillaume Apollinaire, André Derain... But also Gertrude Stein, Marie Laurencin and Suzanne Valadon. The exhibition evokes their condition as women, artists or models, and their difficult emancipation at the beginning of the century.
