Picasso. Untitled, a project of La Casa Encendida and the Almine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso Foundation for Art (FABA), presents 50 works from Pablo Picasso's last period (1963-1973) through the eyes of 50 contemporary national and international artists.
The proposal presents the late work of Pablo Picasso, perhaps the most unknown, open to a process of dialogue with contemporary artists, invited to rename them as a vindication of the artist in a present and also future space. By this means, the proposal will introduce questions latent in his work and present in our times, on the concepts of race, class, gender or identity.
Picasso's work will be presented with a title and a description that transforms, interrogates and resignifies through parallel stories that offer a radically contemporary perspective on his work. The new titles and cartouches, some produced through speculative processes and others through poetic or political interpretations, collectively construct a composite portrait of our current perceptions and Picasso's legacy and influence. Some of the invited artists are Adrián Villar Rojas, Ahmet Öğüt, Asunción Molinos Gordo, DIS, Erwin Wurm, Lidia Ouhramane, Frida Orupabo, Janaina Tschäpe, Joe Harjo, Leonor Serrano-Rivas, Niño de Elche, Pedro Neves Marques, Romeo Mivekannin, Taryn Simon, Trevor Paglen, Tyra Tingleff, Camille Henrot, Pauline Cournier, Cabello Carceller, Christopher Kulendran Thomas, Simon Denny, Antoni Muntadas, Sara Ramo or Revital Cohen & Tuur Van Balen.
An invitation to question Picasso's work and ourselves.
